The MD-450 Ouragan is the first French jet fighter aircraft built in series after the Second World War. Its wing has a low sweep (14 °) and it has a frontal air intake. Thanks to it, Dassault Aviation was able to test and analyze the aerodynamic and flight quality problems posed by the compressibility of air. The prototype made its first flight on February 28, 1949 in Melun-Villaroche piloted by Constantin Rozanoff. The Ouragan equipped the French Air Force from 1952 to 1961. In 1954, the Patrouille de France converted to the MD-450 Ouragan, a 100% French aircraft with a formation of four aircraft.
It was equipped with it until 1957. The model presented belongs to the 4th fighter wing based in Bremgarten (Germany). This aircraft of EC 3/4 Flandre displays on the right the Little Thumb of SPA 155 and on the left the Red Devil of the SPA 160 squadron. It wears the livery commemorating the signing of the Treaty of Rome (1957) and the birth of the European Economic Community, the future European Union. The Ouragan is the first French military aircraft exported after the war. India places an order for 113 Toofani, baptismal name of the Ouragan, in the Indian Air Force in June 1953.
From 1954, the Israeli Air Force received 24 Ouragans to arm its ground support squadrons. Some of these aircraft were resold and served in the Salvadoran Air Force until 1985. A two-seater night fighter version and an all-terrain version were also tested.
